The TechGirls Summer Exchange Program is a fully funded U.S. Department of State initiative that equips young women with hands-on training, mentorship, and global exposure in STEM fields. The 2026 edition will support 111 young women from 37 eligible countries and the United States. The program includes a seven-month mentorship journey, with 23 days spent in the U.S., featuring a Tech Camp at Virginia Tech and visits to major STEM-driven cities.

Who Can Apply?
Young women aged 15–17 from eligible countries across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, the Pacific, the Western Hemisphere, and the United States who are passionate about STEM.

What Is Covered?
The program is fully funded and covers:

  • Visa fees

  • Round-trip international airfare

  • Accommodation and housing

  • Health insurance

  • Local transportation

  • Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

  • Participation in cultural and educational events

  • All program activities, including the Tech Camp at Virginia Tech and trips to selected U.S. cities

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be 15–17 years old (born between July 12, 2008 and July 11, 2011)

  • Must be a citizen of an eligible country

  • Must demonstrate advanced skills, leadership potential, and a strong interest in STEM

  • Must intend to pursue STEM education and career pathways

  • Must have strong English-language proficiency

  • Must be committed to completing a community-based STEM project after returning home

Applications are submitted online through the official TechGirls program portal. Eligible applicants must complete the application form and submit all required documentation as instructed on the official website.
