The University International Postgraduate Award (UIPA) is a competitive scholarship awarded to high-achieving international students undertaking higher degree research (HDR) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). It covers both tuition and living expenses. 

 Who Can Apply? 

  • International applicants applying for a PhD, Master by Research, or Master of Philosophy at UNSW. 

 What Is Covered? 

  • Annual stipend of $39,206 (2026 rate) 

  • Full tuition fee scholarship 

 Eligibility Criteria 

  • Must be an international student 

  • Must apply for or be enrolled in an eligible HDR program at UNSW 

  • Must apply to one of the eligible faculties: 

  • Arts, Design and Architecture 

  • Business 

  • Engineering 

  • Law & Justice 

  • Medicine & Health 

  • Science 

  • UNSW Canberra 

 Duration: 

  • 3.5 years for a PhD 

  • 2 years for Master by Research or Master of Philosophy 

 How to Apply? 

  • Apply for a higher degree research program at UNSW. 

  • Indicate interest in the UIPA during the HDR application process. 

  • No separate scholarship application is required.
