The Department of Mechanical Engineering at U-M offers full financial support to PhD students for 4–5 years (depending on prior degrees), including stipends, tuition, and health/dental benefits. Master's students are self-funded but may pursue fellowships or paid roles like grader or temp employee.  Who Can Apply?  PhD applicants (funding guaranteed upon admission)  Master’s students (must seek independent or competitive support opportunities)  What Is Covered?  For PhD students:  Monthly stipend  Full tuition and registration fees  Health and dental insurance  Support may come through:  Fellowships (internal or external)  Graduate Student Research Assistantships (GSRAs)  Graduate Student Instructorships (GSIs)  Graduate Student Staff Assistantships (GSSAs)  Eligibility Criteria  PhD applicants: Admitted to the Mechanical Engineering program with either a BS or MS  Must maintain full-time enrollment (6 credits for GSRA/GSI/GSSA, 8 credits for fellowships)  International students: Must meet English language proficiency (GSI OET rating of 4 required for teaching roles)  How to Apply?  PhD students: Automatically considered for department funding upon admission  ...
