The PhD in History at Penn is a full-time, research-intensive program designed to develop future historians through rigorous training, interdisciplinary scholarship, and close mentorship. The department accepts a small cohort each year, making admission highly competitive.  Who Can Apply?  Applicants with a strong academic background in history or related disciplines  Those with a clear research interest that aligns with Penn faculty expertise  Individuals applying for full-time PhD studies (part-time and terminal MA admissions are not accepted)  Applicants interested in dual degrees with Penn Law or the Graduate School of Education (separate application required)  What Is Covered?  5-year full fellowship including:  Full tuition  Fees (including General and Clinical Fees)  Health insurance  Annual stipend (2024–25: $41,800)  Travel and research support may be available  All PhD applicants are automatically considered for funding  Eligibility Criteria  Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in history or a related field  Demonstrated ability to write clearly and think critically  Strong academic performance in history courses  Well-aligned research interests with Penn ...
