All admitted Ph.D. students in the English Department at Penn receive five years of full financial support through the Benjamin Franklin Fellowship or William Fontaine Fellowship, with additional resources for sixth-year funding, research travel, and professional development. Who Can Apply? Prospective Ph.D. students in the Department of English. M.A. students are not eligible for funding. What is Covered? Full tuition for 5 years General and Clinical Fees for 5 years Penn Student Health Insurance (PSIP) for 5 years Annual stipend (e.g., $41,800 for 2024–2025), adjusted for cost-of-living Basic membership at Penn’s athletic facilities Travel grants for research, conferences, and colloquia Sixth-year funding support through internal and external fellowships Eligibility Criteria Must be admitted to the English Ph.D. program.
