Program: Sociology 

The Sociology graduate program offers a robust academic foundation with structured support for teaching and professional development. 

Who can apply? 

Graduate students enrolled in the UC Berkeley Sociology Ph.D. program. 

What is covered? 

  • GSI (Graduate Student Instructor) roles in undergraduate courses. 

  • Pedagogical training via SOCIOL 375. 

  • Access to the Teaching Conference for First-Time GSIs and the GSI Teaching & Resource Center resources, including a Certificate Program. 

Eligibility criteria 

  • Must be a Sociology graduate student. 

  • First-time GSIs must complete SOCIOL 375 and attend the mandatory GSI Teaching Conference. 

How to apply? 

  • Apply for GSI positions through the Sociology Department. 

  • Attend required pedagogy training and teaching workshops.
