Program: Development Studies Cornell offers four types of assistantships—Teaching Assistant (TA), Research Assistant (RA), Graduate Assistant (GA), and Graduate Research Assistant (GRA)—to support full-time Ph.D. and research master’s students through teaching or research roles that contribute to the university’s academic mission. Who Can Apply? Full-time Ph.D. and research master’s students. Note: International students whose first language is not English must complete a language assessment before serving as TAs. What Is Covered? Students on full assistantships receive: A stipend Full tuition credit at the research degree rate Cornell individual student health insurance Possible supplemental funding or summer appointments in some fields Eligibility Criteria Must be a full-time Ph.D. or research master’s student Appointments are made by departments, fields, or Principal Investigators (PIs) TA/RA/GA/GRA roles require 15–20 hours/week (averaging no more than 15 for the base stipend) For TAs: Must meet English proficiency requirements if international How to Apply?
