Program: City and Regional Planning 

Assistantships are part-time academic roles that provide financial support to full-time Ph.D. and research master’s students who contribute to teaching, research, or academic support, in alignment with the university's mission. 

Who Can Apply? 

Full-time Ph.D. and research master’s students at Cornell University. 

What is Covered? 

  • Stipend (as set by the Board of Trustees) 

  • Full tuition credit at the research degree rate 

  • Cornell student health insurance 

  • Possible stipend supplements or summer appointments (field-specific)  

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a full-time Ph.D. or research master’s student 

  • Assistantships are usually in the student’s field or a closely related one 

  • International students intending to TA must complete a language assessment (via the International TA Program) if English is not their first language 

How to Apply? 

  • No separate application is required 

  • Assistantships are assigned by departments, fields, or Principal Investigators (PIs) 

  • Usually offered during admission or by departmental nomination
