VU Amsterdam invites applications for a PhD position in neuroscience focused on understanding how β-amyloid (Aß) leads to synapse degeneration in Alzheimer’s disease. The project uses molecular biology, super-resolution microscopy, electrophysiology, and CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing to uncover the molecular mechanisms behind synapse dysfunction. Candidates will contribute to publications, teaching, and international conferences.
Who Can Apply?

Candidates with a Master’s degree in life sciences, biomedical sciences, or biophysics with a neuroscience specialization.

Hands-on experience in molecular biology and cellular neuroscience is required.

Experience with super-resolution microscopy and/or electrophysiology is advantageous.
What Is Covered:

Full-time employment as a PhD candidate

Salary: €3,059–€3,881 gross per month (in the fourth year)

Initial 1-year contract, renewable up to 4 years (ending with the PhD dissertation)

Eligibility Criteria:

Master’s degree in relevant life sciences or biophysics with neuroscience specialisation

Practical experience in molecular biology and cellular neuroscience
